Our Addiction Treatment Program

Most people arrive at addiction treatment knowing something is broken. Fewer arrive with a clear understanding of what addiction actually is, how it works, why it persists, and what it takes to genuinely move through it rather than just manage it. That gap in understanding is one of the most common drivers of relapse. And closing it is one of the most important things we do at Above All Else Recovery.

We offer residential addiction treatment for adults at our facility in Costa Mesa, California. Our 20-bed program integrates medically supervised detox and residential treatment under one roof, combining holistic healing practices, experiential programming, spiritual connection, and the kind of honest, comprehensive care that gives people the real foundation they need for lasting recovery.

Our Philosophy of Care

Addiction is a condition of the whole person, not just the body, not just the brain, not just a moral failing or a matter of willpower. It lives in the nervous system, in the patterns of thought and emotion, in the ruptures of relationship and meaning that both precede and follow years of substance use. Treating it requires addressing all of those dimensions, not just the chemistry.

At Above All Else Recovery, we are holistic, honest, and experiential in our approach. We believe people heal through connection, to themselves, to each other, and to something larger. We create the conditions for that kind of healing: a warm, honest, community-oriented environment where genuine transformation becomes possible.

Integrated Detox and Residential

One of the practical distinctions of Above All Else Recovery is that our detox and residential programs are fully integrated. Clients do not detox in one facility and then transfer to another. They come into our community from day one, receive medically supervised care through withdrawal, and transition seamlessly into the full residential program without gaps in support or continuity. This matters clinically and it matters personally, because the relationships you build in those first days of treatment become the foundation of your recovery community.

Our Treatment Approach

Education and Self-Understanding

We invest heavily in helping clients understand their condition, what addiction is, how it works biologically and psychologically, why certain patterns emerge and persist, and what the research tells us about what actually supports lasting recovery. This is not just psychoeducation. It is the foundation of genuine ownership of one’s own recovery.

The first stage of treatment for many clients is medically supervised detox, safe, monitored management of withdrawal under clinical care. Our detox is integrated with our residential program, so clients are already in the community, already being cared for by the same team, from the first day.

One-on-one therapeutic work with a licensed clinician, exploring the personal history, emotional patterns, and underlying dynamics that contributed to and sustained the addiction. We are honest in our clinical work, not just validating, but genuinely helping each person look clearly at themselves.

Daily group programming is one of the most powerful aspects of residential treatment. The experience of being witnessed, challenged, and supported by peers who are doing the same work, honestly, without the masks that social life usually requires, is irreplaceable. Community is not just a setting for treatment. It is a mechanism of healing.
Physical activity, service work, community outings, and shared daily rituals are embedded in the program because we know that recovery is built through experience, not just insight. Building good habits, the small, daily practices that structure a healthy life, starts here, in the program, before the client ever leaves our doors.

We take the spiritual dimension of recovery seriously. Not religion, but the interior life, the sense of meaning and purpose and connection that addiction erodes and recovery restores. We create space for each person to reconnect with that dimension in their own authentic way. We support 12-Step participation for those who find it meaningful, and we attend meetings together as a community.
