Who We Are
Above All Else Recovery is a residential drug and alcohol treatment center located in Costa Mesa, California. We are an 20-bed detox and residential program built on a simple but radical belief: that genuine, lasting recovery is not just about stopping the use of substances. It is about remembering who you are.
We are not a clinical institution. We are not a detox factory. We are a warm, honest, community-centered place where people in real pain come to do real work, and leave with something that goes much further than sobriety: a restored sense of self, a connection to something larger, and the practical habits and human relationships that make a meaningful life possible.

We focus on experiential learning rather than a purely clinical approach. Although we provide comprehensive medical and therapeutic support necessary for safe, effective detox and residential treatment, we believe that true healing occurs through experience, via community engagement, service, physical movement, and connecting to something greater than oneself, rather than simply through traditional talk therapy.
Holistic means that we address the whole person, body, mind, and spirit, not just the issue of chemical dependency.

Daily Life in the Program
Meals are served family style here. Lunch and dinner are shared experiences, daily practices of being present with each other and restoring the basic human rituals that addiction often erodes. This may seem minor, but it is significant.
We go on outings, attend AA meetings as a community, and engage in service work together. We intentionally build good habits, step by step, because we understand that a person’s daily actions shape who they become. We assist our clients in creating a daily life filled with rhythms, practices, and connections that will support their recovery long after they leave our doors.
Our Approach to Spirituality
We believe that spiritual health is essential for lasting recovery. Our program is not faith-based and does not require adherence to any specific theology. Instead, we recognize that human beings are more than just their biology. The inner life, what some might call spirit, purpose, conscience, or connection, is often the first casualty of addiction and the key to genuine recovery.
Our goal is to help people reconnect with this aspect of themselves in ways that feel authentic to them. We support participation in 12-Step programs for those who find value in them and even offer transportation to meetings. However, we do not enforce a single path to recovery. Instead, we create an environment that fosters meaningful inner work.
